Optimizing Content Tags
In addition to the HTML title and meta tags, search engines also give extra weight to certain "content tags".
We use the term "content tags" to refer to a few HTML tags used to highlight important text. These include
- Header tag
- Bold and strong tags
- Italic tag
- Other tags used to designate content differences
What do content tags look like?
The content tags are placed inside of a page to format text.
Header tag
<h3>Text goes here</h3>
The header tags usually range from h1 to h7 - h1 being the biggest
Bold and strong tags
<b>Text goes here</b>
<strong>Text goes here</strong>
Italic tag
<i>Text goes here</i>
How do I optimize content tags?
Optimizing content tags is simple. Search engines tend to give a bit more weight to keywords found in these tags. The logic is that if the web site creator thought they were important enough to highlight, they're more likely to represent key content for that page.
To improve your search engine rankings, go through your pages and make sure that the text appearing in content tags includes your important keywords.
To review:
- Content tags include headers, bold and strong tags and italics
